I’d never taken part in a Photomarathon before, I’d heard of them, mainly the Cardiff ones, in which a couple of family members had taken part a few years back. ‘I’m not a photographer’ is what I told myself when asked to take part in the RCT Photomarathon, I don’t even own a camera! Yet there I was at 10am waiting for the first set of subjects to be released. Had I suddenly become a photographer? Had I been out and bought a super expensive digital SLR? (not going to lie I had to google that) No to both.
I headed out with my phone, a couple of battery packs (essential!) and a box of Lego (my chosen theme!). I had the best of days! I headed to loads of different locations around South Wales and saw RCTphotomarathon lanyards everywhere I went!
This is an event for ALL ages and ALL abilities, don’t question whether you can or can’t do it just do it! Do it on your own, do it as a family, you won’t be disappointed! I for one cannot wait for the event in 2022!!
Top Tips:
Wear comfy shoes! You WILL walk miles looking for that perfect spot to shoot from!
Don’t forget to eat and drink! Stay hydrated and fed – it’s a long day and you’ll need to keep your energy up!
Don’t stress if you don’t get the pic you crave, you’ll get the next one!
Enjoy the day! When you see your photos in the exhibition weeks later they’ll bring back a host of happy memories!

I loved every second of taking part in the RCT Photomarathon 2021The whole event was impeccably planned and organised with an attention to detail and professionalism that made it so easy for even a photomarathon newbie like me to get involved, follow the rules, and throw myself into the event.
The communications from the team from start to finish were so clear and welcoming, making you really feel a part of something that culminated in a wonderful exhibition that brought everyone’s photographs together.
I particularly loved the subjects selected and how they pushed me creatively to think about my hometown and everyday surroundings in a different way, as well as having to think on my feet and come up with ideas under the pressures of the time limit. I cannot wait to see what themes they come up with next year and I will definitely be taking part again.

"we're all in this together"
The RCT Photomarathon is unlike the Photomarathons that have been before. This is an event spread across the entire RCT community. - From Llantrisant all the way to Penderyn.. there are plenty of unique places to explore and capture photos of.

Because of the distance to cover in this Photomarathon the community is going online.

Of course you might bump into somebody during the day with a panicked expression and a Photomarathon lanyard on, but it is entirely likely you might not meet anyone until awards evening.

We are encouraging all participants to keep their social media's updated through out the day, as will we at Photomarathon HQ and we can maintain the excitement and buzz. There is definitely a massive thrill when taking part in a Photomarathon and a HUGE sense of achievement.
